About Your Co-Host

1. Introduce yourself. Where are you from? What should listeners know about you?

Hi! My name is Donny and I live just outside Dallas, TX. I have been married 11 years and am expecting my first junior gamer (a boy) in June. I am the co-host and Edit Overlord of the Low Player Count Podcast, a podcast about solo and two-player games, a key-holder for Dallas Games Marathon, a monthly meetup of gamers, and a board member for Dallas-Forth Worth Nerd Night, an organization that throws monthly board game parties for charity.

2. What games or types of games are you interested in?

I lean towards games with either loads of brainy decisions or ridiculous amounts of theme and dice chucking! I do, however, move as far away from direct, open conflict among many players. Head to head play, now that's different! Just about any game that lists solo play on the box is one I'll probably buy. I have several armies for various miniature war games (Warhammer 40K, Warmachine, MERCS, etc.) and am a recovering Magic player.

3. Do you have a favorite game or games you enjoy most?

My long term favorite games are Race for the Galaxy and Mage Knight. More short term (though leap frogging up my all time list) are Terraforming Mars and The Colonists.

4. What are some of the most memorable experiences have you had with tabletop board games in the past?

I've been playing modern board games for about six years now and one of my first memories includes playing a giant, homebrew version of Settlers of Catan, using a wide array of expansions (some only in part) and never learning what triggers the end game (I still don't know...). More recently, it's diving into the ever-growing gaming community both in my area and in the US. I've been very lucky to travel twice to Gen Con and once to Origins as a part of the board game industry.

5. What is the focus of your WDYPTW segment?

The focus of my segment is my BG Stats App! My resolution this year was to be more deliberate about tracking my game plays. I'm normally horrible at remembering what I've played or even what games I own (no, it's not THAT many, I just have a bad memory!). To further this, my segment will be me reviewing my plays for the week, the good, the bad, and the very, very ugly (usually my all too frequent losses) via my BG Stats App. Sometimes I'll explore what went wrong and sometimes it'll just be a quick review of how the game went and what I liked.
